G.M. Revamping the D-Max for 07 Emissions

For emission purposes, G.M. is revamping their Duramax engines adding $3,000.00 to the cost of building the truck.

That is in line with what has been indicated in other posts. The 6.4 PSD will likely be close to an $8500 option.

Worse. MPGs are said to be maybe 15% less.

Gee whiz. I only paid $6500 for my 96 Dodge V-10 two years ago. Only worth about $3500 now.

Even at only 8-9 MPGs pulling my trailer, it's starting to look pretty good.

Interesting.... I can tell you now, piezo-electric injectors are a whole lot better than particulate filters (from performance, and smoothness standpoints...).
It will be an interesting year or so in the pickup world...

Very much the reason I'll prolly end up holding on to the truck I have now for any kind of work vs. any kind of trade-off

wow, an 8500 dollar engine option, is this the damn boating world?

So...the Piezo injectors are not enough or what? The 6.4L will have a soot trap as well...
The Duramax will probably see those injectors eventually.

BigF350 06-19-2006 02:05 AM

I didn't think the PSD was getting a soot trap... just the injectors.
The D-max was getting the trap.

According to the Power Point presentation someone posted on this site several months ago the 6.4 will be getting an active diesel particulate filter after the cat. I can't seem to find the thread it was in, but I did save it to my drive. If someone could tell me how to post it I would gladly do so.

Crap, I only paid $5900 in 1997 for my 86 F250 4x4 460, C-6, 3;55 gears. I added 5000# air shocks, Edelbrock Performer manifold, 4160 Holley, Cloyes Street roller timing chain, and new windshield, and with up keep I don't think I have much over $8500 in the truck and 9 years of driving. So 5.8 MPG towing our 10,000# travel trailer still looks real good. In fact it is looking better every day. They can keep this NEW HIGH PRICED CRAP. Called trucks. There is only two things those new diesels can do my gas rig can't GO FASTER, Get double the gas mileage. The A/C don't work any better nor the P/S or anything else. For $40,000 that isn't much IMO. Not to mention 1.5 % of MSRP for license plates, and $800 plus for insurance, and interest on loan. If I only got 2 MPG these last items would more than pay for the gas. at $3/gal. I'm retired so I'm in no hurry to get anywhere. So you new truck diesel guys pass me at every chance, but remember the money your truck cost is in my bank account. and in five years my $40,000 investment will be worth more, where your truck will be worth a lot LESS. :-wink

Dave Ramsey put it well. "Most new cars will lose 60% of their value in the first four years. That's like throwing a $100 bill out the window once a week."
