Quick advice: wastegate actuator clip removal

Anyone have any tips for removing that little clip on the wastegate rod? I don't want to pull the turbo so I'm trying to reach back there.

Also any tips to reinstall that clip?

Help quick please, I'm getting frustrated and I'm turning green!! :-rip

use a pocket screw driver to remove and a pair of needle nosie pliers to reinstall

Good luck reinstalling the clip! Very difficult although u may be luckier than I and most folks. After i lost my clip i ended

up removing the red pressure line to the wastegate actuator cannister. Then i tightened down the tension on the spring and wha!...big time boost! Beware...this could shorten turbo bearing life.

i found the cork screw from a swiss army knife and a small mechanics mirror was just the trick. be warned you will probably loose the clip. i did find the clip after i took it off and it popped right back on after i adjusted the actuator rod.

I got it!!! Frustrating little booger.

Anyway, got the clip to pop off with a small screwdriver. I had a hard time reaching back there (big hands), but I eventualy managed. I put it back on again with a screwdriver managing to prop my thumb up against it and leverage until it snapped into place. Thanks again to Jeremy for the Banks Big Head!!!! I also installed a set of Bilstein 5100's as well, now time to take it for a test drive.

Bilstein 5100's are great. im going to retorque all of my stuff this weekend. i love the 'steins, they make the truck feel a whole lot lighter and nimble, but it's still big.

if anyone needs any of these "jesus clips", pm me, i have a few new ones laying around i can mail to you if you need them. i think.

Easiest way to remove the clip is with a small, sharp, 90* pick such as the 3rd one down in this picture:

A small mirror helps you see the clip so you can stick the point of the pick into the small hole in the middle of the backside of the clip, then pull and it comes right off.

Reinstalling the clip... don't. :) Just throw it away and get a pack of Napa Circular Linkage clips (part number 7352640) for a couple bucks. The clip you need from the pack you can reinstall with your finger tips, as you just drop it on over the top, and push to one side and it slides into place. You can take it on and off vary easily if you want to adjust the Big Head.

Looks like you've already got it done.... but oh well... future reference for whoever else can use it. :-X22

Great info ryan. I was happy when I got mine off without loosing it when installing the WW. Unfortunately it went flying when re-installing but I procured a spare clip from a mechanic at the dealership prior to the WW install after reading all the horror stories about this http://images.ford-trucks.com/forums...s2/cussing.gif clip! Think I'll pick up a pack at Napa.

I agree, I'm gonna get some too just for when I crank mine down. Rep points for you Ryan.
