Motorcycles

A few days ago I posted a question regarding Royal Enfield motorcycles. The lack of responses prompted me to change my mind about those bikes and choose a different one.

Does anybody know anything about Urals? Good, bad, or....?

Never heard of it. It seems your looking for something 'out of the ordinary' - wassup? Have you considered a custom, even DIY style? Do you plan to ride it? A lot? Undeterred by potential problems with parts availability? Come on man, tell us what you're thinkin'.

Only thing I know about Ural motorcycles is that it's a russian motorcycle and newer ones look simular to a honda. I would think it would be hard and expensive to get a needed part.

my wife is from russia, from what she knows about them, they are the simplest motorcycle one can imagine. they are not very reliable, but are very cheap, can buy one for a few hundred dollars. everyone in ukraine and russia has ural motorcycles, they can't afford anything else. also they are not very fast.

by the way, if you find a place in the states that sells them, let me know!

Why not just get a Honda, Yamaha or even better yet, a Harley???

The Ural design was taken from BMW. I can't remember the exact model, maybe an R50?

Take a look at the motor itself. It's a boxer. If you take a 70's BMW and put it next to a 90's Ural, you will see they look about the same.

It's my understanding, that they are fairly reliable. Not very fast, not very high tech.

But, if you're looking for something different, something not a lot of people are riding, then take a close look at them...

a Ural is a cool looking bike, but I think every man should have one of these if he's feeling brave.

Price of steel has skyrocketed!

Greywolf 05-13-2006 12:05 AM

Go figure...

Price of fuel is a factor in it.

I think that bike redefines the "BOX" frame....

Now available at finer home improvement stores in your area: The "Splinter"!

(It's a Japanese kit, they meant to say Sprinter).

Wow, never heard of Urals and then I find out the place here in town was dealer of the year! They sell an enduro bike down there, too. Really cheap. I'd like to have a sidecar bike.
