Fuel for less than a Buck?

I have a '03 F350 SD Power Stroke. It has 98K miles on it and runs like a champ.

I am just tired of going to the Bank to get a loan everytime I need to fuel up.http://images.ford-trucks.com/forums...lies2/rotz.gif

I have been looking in to making my own fuel using used cooking oil from nearby resturants. I have read up on it and the information I have gathered is just uninformitive. http://images.ford-trucks.com/forums...ies2/thumb.gif

Is there any one with some solid information on the dangers of using anything other than standard Diesel?

I have all the items I need to make my own fuel....just a little warry of putting in my dream truck.

way less then a buck if you run it on a two tank well heated WVO system.

I get my WVO for free. Picked up 35 gallons yesterday. It was a 15 mile round trip that I made driving on WVO. So, so far no cost for that pickup. I filter it in my garage into drums after it has settled for some time maybe a week or more. The filters I use cost about $5-6 bucks at McMaster-carr. I have not changed one of them in months. So the cost per gallon to filter is very small.

I then heat the WVO in my drum to about 100 F takes about an hour then I let it cool and then heat again. I do this cycle at least 3 times. The cost of this electricity is hard for me to determine but my guess is it adds $20 bucks to my electric bill each month.

So WVO cost me maybe 3 or 4 cents a gallon.

I'm getting better at using it and now get well over 1200 miles to the tank of diesel. I only have the 28 gallon tank on my 6.0 and mostly all I do is my commute to work with the truck 62 miles round trip.

If someone drove for a living and only had to purge once for every 400-500 miles you could go along way before you had to buy diesel.

Erick is right you can use WELL HEATED WVO, but for some of us that is not the answer. I have to many diesels to convert, so I chose to make biodiesel. I have been making and using bio for 2 years with no problems. There are quite a few of us making it here and we are all willing to help new people. Read some threads, ask some questions, and you'll be making it yourself soon.:-X03

My cost averages about $.45 per gallon and to date I've made and used over 7,000 gallons.

i am a new member. i found this site through a friend. what does wvo stand for? i have a lot of motor, trans oil, etc. from tractors and vehicles. can i burn it at 100% are you having any problems? what kind of mileage are you getting? did you have to convert any thing on your truck? i have a 96 f350 with 117000. any extra insight you may have would be appreciated.

My brother-in-law had a plan that he was going to go in on a project with a few other guys. Essentially he and this group would buy the equipment necessary to make biodiesel. By splitting the cost, it wasn't as expensive for each individual to make and use biodiesel. I'll have to see if he's still gonna' do that.

Biodiesel is gonna' lead the way.

:-rip NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use used motor oil!!!! WVO=Waste veggie oil, WMO=Waste motor oil. Start reading the threads in this forum.

Dont use waste motor oil. The small metal and whatever else will hurt your wallet. I know first hand the probs especially on the side of the road.

I have made my filtering system using the instruction form the DSE site. I live in Colorado and work in the Mountains. I don't know if using straight WVO will work unless I put a heating unit in for the fuel.....I will add the additive suggested by DSE..... I get my WVO for free for know from the casinos here. the cost is in the additives.....We will see how it go's.

I read on a Auto-Manufacturer owned forum that: "anymore than B5 (5% Bio-Diesel) may cause problems, B20 (20% Bio-Diesel) is taking a huge risk and B100 (100% Bio-Diesel) is hazardous"...is that statement full of crap? I think that the Auto companies are trying to make consumers avoid it so that the company can make "flex-fuel" systems...basically the same cars only more expensive. That would be an obvious plan that could make them even more money. I have yet to experiment with Bio-Diesel but I am contemplating that maybe some risks exist?

Before you make up to much of this DSE stuff search this forum for info on it. You may (should) change your mind.

Biodiesel is BETTER than dino-diesel:-D Properly made, it will only make your diesel run much smoother, AND help it to last longer :-X03
