ECM Problems
 

Sensors not ready. I posted this topic before and it didn’t get any replys . Going to try one more time. I have a Actrcon Scanner, under diagnosis, I\M readiness I have four sensors that it says are Incomplete, there are the Catalyst Mon, Oxygen Sens Mon, Oxygen Sens Htr and the EGR System Mon.. I have had a problem like this last year and the dealer supposedly fix it. I need all these or at least most of them working to pass smog. Anyone have any Ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK, let me start off by admitting that I'm flying in a heavy fog on this topic. Not blind but its really hazy. OBD-II systems are not my forte. However many of the sensors utilized on the earlier EEC-IV system are also utilized by the OBD-II system. The catalyst monitor, O2 sensor heater, and O2 sensor monitor are interrelated. The O2 sensor requires heat from the exhaust to function properly and if the test was administered with the engine/exhaust cold, there could be a problem. The system on your 96 uses three O2 sensors. One just below each bank of cylinders and one down behind the catalytic converter if I am recalling correctly. The EGR system monitor would most likely be the EVP sensor. Again I'm hazy on this but I don't think the OBD-II switched to a PFE sensor (which does the same thing as the EVP sensor but in a different way). There is a filter atop the EVP sensor that if clogged will affect the operation of the sensor. The EVP is mounted to the top of the EGR valve on the passenger side of the upper intake plenum. This is about as concise an answer or response to the question that I feel comfortable giving. O2 sensors do fail periodically and with having three of them in your truck it could be any or all of them. The EVP sensor filter is just a suggestion since I am not 100% certain as to the actual application with OBD-II

Thanks for the reply, now to the problem. I drove the truck for about 50 miles, up to our local montains. Every now and then I stop and plug in the scanner to see if there was any diffreance. No diffrenance. The truck should have been plenty hot enough. There are no DTC, never had a single one on the truck in the last five years I have own it. Only own the scanner for a couple of months. This is a problem I had since last years smog check. Don't know what else to add.
