I just hit 128,000 miles on my 97 F150

Update: The wife called a little while ago and told me the Expedition just turned over 300,000.

We just got back from a ski trip to NC over the weekend. No problems (knock on wood). Wonder how long this thing will last?

That's impressive! :-drink

What size engine?

157,000 on my 5.4. Knocks like a thrasher when cold but smooth and quiet after warmed up. Still runs great though.

BigMike, It's a '97 with the 5.4. Hopefully, God willing, it'll last that much longer with proper maintenance.

I'm afraid to post this, migh jinx myself and my 2001 F150 Screw 5.4L Lariat 4x4.

I've owner her from 24k miles, currently 91k. other than the sunroof track blowing out (covered under FMC's ESP), the keyless entry pad going haywire (also covered) and now supposedly needing inner and outer tierods on BOTH sides, i haven't had any problems with her one bit.

One question i do have, i made the mistake of having the dealer install Ford Platinum plugs (at one mechanics insistance that Bosch, etc. create too many problems)......now i'm wondering, after reading so many posts, should i find the COP's for about $200 and replace them, or will the computer tell me if/when one tosses on me?

I have been reading with great interest, all the many posts on this site and must say I'm now an addict and may need therapy...who do i send the bill to?

I just traded in an old F-150 with 220k. My F-250 has 2200 troublefree miles. :-missingt

I hear over 200k is common.

'99 250 LD SC XLT Offroad 4x4 5.4L - 'bout 83K (is it broke in yet?!?):p

Recently picked up an F-350....

...5.4, 4x4, Lariat, 4 inch lift and 35 inch Nitto's...Hung a 3000 lb Lance camper on it and took off on a 6500 mile road trip from Northern Calif to North Carolina, and back!

It's got 176,500 on the 'clock' as we got home - runs like a well tuned clock, used one qt of 'blend' type oil on the whole trip.

Got about 9.6 MPG on the trip, haulin' that big 'box' on it's back! Found some $1.889 gas in NC! Bummer to come back to Calif to find gas is now $2.60 a gallon!

Our other ride, an 89 Bronco with a 5.0 engine ran just over 200,000 miles before the rear main seal leak got the best of us! Put a rebuilt long block in her, and she's good for another 200K, I hope!

105,000 on 2000 e-250 no problems yet except the occasional coil for each plug

texxan62 01-24-2007 08:56 AM

175k on 97 F150 4x4.
Piston slap issues and blew a transfer case at 160k.
Oh, and changed lower ball joints at 170k.
Other than that, 1 helluva truck.

We have an '05 with almost 40K on the clock. Great economy (5.4) but if you let the oil go past 2500 miles it rattles like a powerstroke. It misses & has poor idle quality but tows well. I expect 200K + from it

Dans4X4F150 01-24-2007 06:48 PM

98 f150 4x4 223,000 and still no smoke or oil burning!

darmahsd 01-27-2007 10:27 PM

'97 Expy with 156K. Replaced two COPS (#4-common, & #7), alternator and belt. Has what sounds like an intermittent valve lifter noise like on old pushrod motors. Goes away, fills with oil? Makes sense if these motors do have what looks like hydraulic zero lash adjusters in the manual. I have the common leaky exhaust manifold that tightens up when engine gets to running temperature.
Because I'm used to the common practice of routine replacement of waterpump and timing chain on older Ford and Chevy pushrod smallblocks, I'm concerned and nervous about longevity of these components on the modular 'cammers at 156 thousand miles. Ford service guys I asked tell me not to worry about it. I use Mobil 1 Synthetic and go twice the 3000 mile oil change interval sometimes. 'Always used some oil.
Bottom line: This engine one of the best I've owned.
Stephen
