How fast will a 2wd Toyota Pickup go with a 22R Engine

I was just wondering what the top speed of one of these little trucks were. Also what kind of mileage and MPG can you get out of them.

Octane 03-19-2006 02:06 PM

22R was only about 95 hp, so dont expect much for performance. 90-100 mph might be all its got.
They do run forever though, 300,000 miles isnt not an unrealistic expectation.
The MPG is going to depend if its a 4x2 or 4x4 and whether its got a manual or automatic tranny.
A 4x2 manual can get 25 mpg pretty easily, but you might only get 15-18 mpg with a 4x4.

How can you make them go faster

The same stuff that makes any engine go faster.

Cam, header, valve job, port/polish the intake/head/exhaust....maybe some pistons depending on how low the compression ratio for that particular engine is, but I'm sure about any Toyota truck specific site can help you find those parts.

Ok, you said a truck right, I had mine up to 110, with a 5 spd manual.

I have been in a celica with the 22r engine, and it was doing 160. Now I'm not sure what the RPM's were at, but it was a little loud, to say the least. Diffrent gearing in the car to.

Also, I did get great gas mileage, when I kept my foot out of it. My truck was a 2wd. I'm going to say around 32 mpg

Yeah, those 2wd Yotas are cheap on gas. 15 bucks to fill, every 3 weeks just to work and back. 2 weeks if I went anywhere else. I had an 80 or 81 with the 22R, 5 speed, and while it wasn't overly powerful, it did okay. I didn't really push it too hard, as the frame was cracked and rusted to the point where the only way it stayed up was because the box was resting against the back of the cab. You'll probably find the same thing if you have a bad frame.

Not as fast as my car.

The Yota with the 22RE is pretty good, if I had my Peterson's magizine close I'd get you a couple sites. There's a site that offers a complete turbo kit for this little engine something like 350 streetable ponies and about that in torque.

Here's one
LC Engineering

I'll try to find the other

But to put it into perspective my 91 SR5 with the 3.0 V6 and a 5 speed will do about 110-120

I take it you mean 160 KPH, because there is no way in heck that it will do 160 mph.

Snake1979 03-30-2006 07:50 PM

Nope, it was MPH, but my freind had tweeked the car a little. If you got that car out on a long stretch, it was just keep climbing, a little faster, a little faster.

Buddy has a 85 2wd truck with the 22R. He ran the dog ***** out of that truck. Now it's parked because he's had one ticket too many!

One night we hit 739 (Honda Parkway, when Honda lets out, it gets flooded) which is a straight concrete road for about 6 or 7 miles, and we got er up to about 105. He has the 4 speed manual tranny though.

I'm not a huge fan of Toy's, but if I had to have one, it would DEFINATELY have the 22R or 22E engine. Solid solid performer. Buddy got 25-26 around town consistenly BTW.

22re

I've pegged the needle on my little 1993 Toyota pickup with 22re the only difference is fuel injection I'd imagine it was 160+
