Radiator flush...
 

I have a 01 F-150 and I want to do a radiator flush. How do I go about doing this the correct way.

I was told that there should be a drain on the bottom passenger side of the radiator. After draining that I was told to put a hose in and just leave it on for awhile to clean it out.

Would that be the correct way to flush the radiator?

How much new fluid would I need? And are there different types of fluid? If so which one?

you simply remove the lower radiator hose . then you can flush it. i remove the heater hose and attach the garden hose right to the hose barb sticking out of the manifold where you just removed the heater hose from.

I used about 2 gallons coolant and 1 1/2 gallons distilled water. What color coolant does it have now? When you flush, don't forget to turn the heater on to HOT.

With the truck off correct?

Don't remove lower radiator hose, there is a plastic valve located by the passenger front wheel. Where exactly I don't remember, but put a 5 gallon bucket under it, and you'll be fine. Leave the truck off. When it is all drained, close the valve and fill the entire reservoir with water and run for 15 minutes. Drain this water in to the bucket, and proceed to close the valve and put in your 50/50 mix of water and coolant. Make sure you don't let the family pet get a hold of that coolant bucket, its pretty toxic stuff.

I've used those Prestone kits with good success. My Ford tech buddy says they actually do a pretty good job.
