Does anyone balance brake drums anymore?

interesting question, you could check it on a bubble balancer and use a drill to balance it.

I think that due to price drops from local auto parts stores (Autozone, NAPA) over the past 10 years, it is cheaper to simply replace the drum than do an old fashion "drum turn" + balance..

This is probably why most shops will ask you "Why do that?"

I found if you get the really good quality drums etc like Raybestos PG their usually ok out of the box.

Why? Are u racing at over 250 miles an hour? Hemorids hurting? Just kidding, If you really want the drums balanced correctly, 1st have your tires/rim assembly balanced on a computer spins balancing machine. 2nd, Go to the oldest front end shop in town and see if they still use the old, on vechile, spin balancer. It works with a mark on the sidewall and a flash from the balancer. It balances the rims, tire, drum, axle, everything that spins, get balanced. Since the rim/tire combo was spun earlier, any weights added, are from the imbalance of the rotating assy. Now u r ready to go 250 plus....
