Motorcraft 7200 Carburetor
 
I posted a thread some time ago looking for info on how to get my dad's pride and joy '82 F250 4X4 to pass California smog certification. Original Equipment was a Motorcraft 7200 Variable Venturi carburetor. Everything I have read says that they aren't a first choice for mixing fuel. Apparently dad agreed and replaced it with a Holley 2bbl.

Smog guys say replace the Holley with the OEM or "legal alternative". I've checked around and some local vintage speed shops and they don't know of an alternative but can obtain a remanufactured version of the original for just under $500.

Does anyone know of an other option? I really want to keep the truck but the 7200 carb reman sounds like a lot for a bad solution.

If its a 302 Autozone has a replacement with cali certification Holley ford model 7200 PN# 64-6573 for manual tranny and AOD, For C6 tranny PN#64-5579. Good luck.

If you have a 351, the Holley replacement electronic feedback carb is a 2300 #1-684, casting # 80179. I have one on my 1980 Lincoln 351.

These have not been made for several years, but are available new on ebay (search for 1-684) or from some rebuilders.

Thanks to you Dungeon_Master and Mark80. I went to Autozone and they had three carbs that would work on the 351 Windsor (sorry I left that out DM), only one was available and that was the variable venturi model no one appears to like for $440. So I took it to a Smog testing station and had a test run done to benchmark it. Without any of the smog stuff on it, it passed with flying colors. Unfortunately that was not good enough, the visual needed to pass also. Turns out it needed the carb, the headers-back exhaust and everything hooked backup. The Smog guy was most helpful and pointed me to Super Carburetors in Riverside, CA. They found a carb (took two days), rebuilt it, put it on, and hooked everything up (same day) for $280. Pop's old truck (Ol' Buzzard) runs sweet and is legal. Another old Ford resurrected for posterity. Now for the bodywork... Thanks again guys!
