460 engine build
i have a 77.5 f-250 crewcab 4x4 i am going to put a 460 engine and a 4 spd trans with 4.10 gears a am going to put 38 inch tires on my truck so for road speed 65 mph it would rev 2300 rpm so i would need low end torque and still have fairly good mpg and not spending my savings on just the engine. i want to keep the stock botom end and heads maybe a three way cut, leaving the cam i have seen ppl talking comp cam xtreame 4x4, timing set (advanced, strait up, or retarted) and intake, carb and valve train. what componets would work the best for this setup.

you might want to try posting this in the 460 fourm (385 series fourm) the people there can tell you what you need to know.

Head's up !
The engine forums are the best place to ask Specific Engine question Basically you are looking for Low end torque. Low end torque is better achieved with a 2v carb as opposed to a 4v. Install a 68-72 429 Timing chain and gears. |

Start off with the timing chain swap (to a pre-'71 spec unit) and add some headers. This will give you noticeable power gains without sapping your wallet. Then you can decide if you want to move into intakes, heads, cams, and the like.
And take a little time to explore here for some basics - https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=269758 Brad |
what type of cam, intake, and carb would be the best to run?
