Engine Cuts Out

We have a 1996 F-350 w/7.3 L diesel and upon acceleration after start up (most of the time) the engine cuts out, but after several times cutting out the engine runs fine. Seems to slowly be getting worse. Fuel filter has been changed. Within the last year the wiring harness under the valve covers has also been changed. Any ideas would be appreciated.

This is a classic sympthom of cam position sensor breakdown

I agree with GarryR... My 95 did that, changed the CPS, have had no problems since.

Where is the cam sensor located? Is it relatively easy to change?

It's a ten minute job if you have done it before. Half hour if not.
It's located at around the ten o'clock position next to the crankshaft pulley on the front of the engine block. Held down with one 10mm bolt.

Thanks, I'll get right on it.

Ok i got the same problem. I got the wires undone and the 10mm bolt undone but the also the little plate that holds the CPS on but how does the CPS come out does it slide out or twist.

Hay twin66 that's very common just use a screw drive and pry it out. Have fun.
