Check out my gallery under the homemade FIPK for ideas on what to put in it's place. The silencer is what the 90 degree pipe replaces in an FIPK.

I did that on my truck about a year ago, and I did not see a major difference. - it is also a pain to get the glued portion off the airbox. Not worth your trouble. I went on ebay and got a brand new K&N FIPK for 100 bucks, now that makes a difference you can feel. Good luck

I never had much trouble removing the glue, must have changed the type they use - not saying it was extremely easy, but it wasn't incredibly difficult.
As far as the performance difference... it changed when I swaped my intake silencer for a 3" exhaust 90. Outside of the "hi-flow" filter, that's the biggest change. When I first made my own I didn't have an oil impregnated gauze filter. Now I do... no real change then. To each their own. -Kerry |
That is a good point that I did not think about. I already had a K&N stock filter replacement in there, maybe that is why I did not notice it.
The glue for me was a real pain. I ended up poking quite a few holes in the silencer to get it off (not that it mattered, but still not easy for me. |
I built my own 180 degree, 3 " adapter for filter relocation to accommodate a narrow engine compartment. No fancy filter but stock ford crown vic. Works great and is very accessable.
