Propane
What are the reasons to convert a truck to propane? Does the motor last longer? I have seen a few trucks that this has been done to. Is it hard to convert a FI truck over? Has anybody here done it?

Conversion to propane is a mixed bag.
The engine will last longer and there are fewer nasty emissions. Depending on your location it may or may not be more economical. On the otherhand you will get less MPG and performance is reduced in almost all aspects. |
wow I guess I won't be going that route. I like the idea of a long lasting motor, but less performance and MPG, count me out.

Unless you have a diesel and use propane to augment the stock fuel system....then propane adds performance and increases economy.

Check my Sig :) (Powershot 2000 = Propane augmentation)

Several of the gas companies around here are converting to compressed natural gas.
The conversion is a bit expensive, but the latest generation of conversion equipment makes about the same power as gasoline does. |

Hotroddually,
Where did you get your multi port propane injection kit, and who makes them? That sounds like a better way to go than the old impco carburators. |
Hotrod is right, if done right you won't lose power. The key is building the engine for the fuel but at the same time having a system to match the engine. He did that. The more common conversion is the Impco 425, so right there, if you have a larger engine you are going to choke it. But I too have a question about the LPG Injection, did it come with a stand alone ECU? I did alot of reading awhile back and all I could find were systems to convert EFI engines using the factory ECU and sensors with minimal power loss, if any at all.

my injection system is hand built. multi port injection is very new,and we are still trying to get a patent on the one on my truck.when it is completed,i will be happy to get into the systems workings.all i will say now,is it works very well .

It'll be interesting to see the finished system.
