Mustang shorty headers fit very well. I used the 1986-93 style. Used stock shorties can be had on ebay for $25 or so. S/S so they clean up like new. If you are concerned with squeezing out every last bit of performance, there are numerous long tube headers that will work as well. I have heard of people using torino/fairlane etc headers from late 60s and early 70s. I wouldn't run far with that long tube recommendation though. You want an exact P/N if you go with long tubes. Headers that don't fit well are nothing but grief you don't need.

I used Flowtech ceramic coated Block Hugger headers in my '59. Not a cheap alternative, at $256.99, but I had no trouble making clearances except with the full-sized starter, which appears to be universal, and had to get the smalller of the two available. They continue to look, sound, and perform great.

I'm using Sanderson headers with my 400 and Volare clip. However, given that there are a number of 302's out there, you shouldn't have a problem choosing from a variety of headers.
