New Tires: Cooper ST or BFG ?

Time for new tires and i was looking at Cooper ST and the BFG commercial AT. I have stock Cooper LTs and they held together well. 235/85/16.
The STs come in 255/85/16 and i thought that might work better in the soft stuff but still okay for highway mpg.
I remember the BFGs being alittle soft and mushy in handling but thought i would get alittle feedback from everybody.

I've got BFG AT K/O LT 285/75/16 and they don't feel soft. I really don't know about Cooper but the BFG's seem a little pricey, but I've been happy with them. Plenty of traction but I don't do any extreme four wheeling either. I've got about 17,000 on them and if they continue to wear as they are I should be at 50,000 give or take a little.

The coopers go for about $156 (at a tire shop) up here and the BFG commercials are around $115 at Costco before mounting. I do about half highway and the rest mixed gravel, dirt and snow so i want a all terrain with a agressive tread but not some big honkin mudder. I have four wheelers for that stuff.

One additional note on the Cooper STs, the 255/85/16s are 8ply instead of 10ply. Is that a problem.

I was wanting to go with a taller (but not wider) tire as im running 410 gears.

If ya run on gravel alot I'd stay away from the BFG's. I had a set on my work truck and did't get 8k miles out of them. This was on a 1/2 ton cheby....they chipped and wore down fast. Our roads are very hard gravel roads so I'm sure that helped. But they have been the worst tire for wear I have had on that truck in its 120k mile life. I wasen't too impressed with em in the mud/snow either.
