steering stabilizer
 

I had to replace the idler arm on my '00 f-150 4x4 almost a year ago, and I asked the mechanic at the dealership (yes, dealership... it was still under warranty) what, if anything, could I do the prolong the life of the new idler arm. He told me other than keeping the sucker greased, I may be able to put a steering stabilizer on my truck. I had never heared of one made for an IFS truck, but have put several on solid axles. Does anyone know of one made specifically for IFS 4x4's? or will a universal kit work? Or was that mechanic just a quack?

Yea...Rancho makes a kit for mounting and sells the shock. And Tuff country also does. Prolly some other companies two, but those are the only ones I know of. I was actually ordering one from rancho in a few days. One end goes to tie rod and the other to center of the axle where it is "solid". By that I mean in between the CV joints. I put one on my truck. It is made by superlift. Mine bolts up in a weird place. It is next to the air cond. pump. It bolts to the frame of the truck and the center steering bar. Not sure what the correct verbage is for the center steering bar but it is the one that the tie rods are connected to. It is also bolted up behind this bar. You can not even see it unless you look in the passenger side wheel well. It did make a big difference on my truck but then again I am running 36 inch mickey thompsons. Good luck with this project.
