Getting water in front and rear pumkin??
 

I drive in water every weekend in my 98 4x4 to gain access to my camp. The water is usually 2 feet deep. I would prefer not to cross it b/c 2 feet doesn't sound like much, but it's enough to cover a lot of parts. At times, the water will rise to the bottom of the headlights, depending on rainfall. Unfortunately, i have no choice but to go through it.

anyway, I don't understand why i am getting water in my pumkin. If nothing is leaking out, why is water leaking in? This problem has likely contributed to the "catchy rear clutches" that are driving me nuts. I looked for a vent tube and think i found it, attempted to relocate it, but am still getting water. Maybe it was the wrong tube?

any suggestions would be appreciated. I am changing the fluid too often, and, not often enough. It is getting expensive. I also get water in the transfer case, which causes the 4x4 to kick in and out of 4x4. The shadetree mech that put the starter in changed it and put Amsoil syn in, which is hopefully ok.

i have not looked at that truck specifically, but all axles have a line or tube the size of the brake line (or hose) that connects to the pumpkin, or axle housing just to the side of the pumpkin. i would extend them up to the bed level. your next problem is going to be front wheel bearings, brake shoes, transmission, etc. the truck is not setup for 2 feet of water over and over, as you have seen.

i agree with steve. you gotta take the hose way above the water level. and also get ready to replace some bearings and seals.
