97 F-250 HD, Old Body Style, w/460 parts?

Hello Everyone,

Once again, I believe I've been victimized by a parts store because I have the old body style 97 F-250 HD. This time it appears they've given me the wrong brake parts. I have a post in the "brakes" section, if anyone cares to take a look. I've done some searching on here and it appears others have been faced with the same problem from time to time. How come the parts places haven't caught onto it yet?

My question for this part of the forum is what's my best option for avoiding this confusion in the future? By all means, if I can take the part with me to the store, I do, but that's not always practical. I've heard many people say "just tell them you have a '96" when getting parts. Will that work for everything? It seems like some of the parts I've gotten in the past have been correct by telling them what my truck really is. Maybe it was just luck.

I tried calling Ford with this problem, but they insisted I'd be able to get more information from a dealership:mad: . The dealership will only tell me they have the parts I need, but when I asked for the part number for my brake rotors, the guy just threw out a number instantaneously. It was so obvious that I asked him if he was lying to me. He acted all offended, so I thought "maybe he just knows his job so well, the info was right on the tip of his tongue". Silly me. I called NAPA and told them the questionable part number...they got a good laugh out of that one. The dealership has obviously done this enough that the NAPA guys know their game.

I know others on this forum have dealt with this confusion when trying to get parts for an old body style '97, so please tell me how you deal with it. Will a build sheet help? If so, is there a way I can request one electronically?

I love my truck. Yes, the 460 gets horrible gas mileage, but I've learned to just avoid looking at the gauge frequently:-X04 . I only use the truck for towing my camper and hunting trips, so I don't have to feel the pain daily.

She gets awfully thirsty, but I want to keep her alive forever...

I welcome your thoughts.

Bill
