Best Chain Saw ?

This is kind of subjective, but I just spent 2 days felling and cutting up 2 medium size trees and had to borrow my Dad's McCulloch "Eager Beaver" 14 inch chain saw, What a P.O.S !!! Chain jumped off the sprocket every 5 mins and then it would not want to start. So what are your opinions on the most reliable, easiest starting chain saw?

Thanks, Chet

Go with Stihl its all I ever buy or use I cut trees from 12" to 36" in diameter for what you are looking for the MS260 would probably do ya. You could go with the MS360. The professional Stihl saws have white handles the home owner saws have orange or black handles.

I have a MS 260 with a 20" bar on it for doing the small jobs its good for falling and bucking the smaller wood anything 16"s and less. The 046 with a 28" bar and 051 with a 36" bar is used for bigger wood.

I'll throw in my vote for Husky.

Having spent more years than I can count making my primary living selling firewood, I've used up a few saws.

If you're just plain looking for reliable and functional, you can't go wrong with Stihl or Husky. If you want a saw that's also comfortable to run all day with, make it a Husky.

I've used more than a few of each. My current trimming saw is a 20 year old Stihl because the silly thing won't die & be replaced with a Husky. All 4 of my bigger saws are Husky because my wrists are happier with the better balance and much less vibration.

Guess that's more like $0.04...

Stihl or husky. have a 009 stihl been a good saw.

Have an old Husky 50. Bit of a cold dog on trying to start it (needs to be tuned I know), but once running, runs forever.

I helped a friend take down about 7 trees last year (full cord of wood) and his fairly new something or another died out. I just kept right on chewing thru the wood. Pinched in a tree on one, tree fell, saw flew about 15 feet. Picked it up, started right up, back to work I went.

When the time comes for a new saw, it will be a Husky.

I've used a lot of saws but I stihl like Husky best.

Stihl is good for the big stuff, but echo is good for smaller jobs, like in a truck toolbox or strapped to the front of a Kodiak.

I got a summer job thinning out around 15 acres of forest at a lake and Ive used stihl 024 and 025,a little ehco and husqvarna 350. I hate to break my loyalty to stihl but that husky will run and run and run and run and run, Ive used it at home and at work and every other odd job ive done and that thing still revs and cuts like brand new.

+1 slash31938
Stihl doesn't make a really good tiny engine like Echo does. I have a big Stihl for on the ground and a small Echo for when I'm up in the tree. The small Echo has been running for a long time with no problems.

I think that the Poulan Wild Thing is about as good as it gets.
