horse power issue
OK. I asked for help regarding the horse power of my '86. My motor is a 351W. All electronic sensors have been removed but still has the EEC-IV ignition. The motor runs, but almost NO horse power. I found a suitable duraspark distributor with a vacuum advance and the ignition module to go with it. Would a MSD ignition module be a better module to use then the stock? Will this help my horse power issue?
I also am running only a 2 barrel. Should I put a 4 barrell on? The reason I ask this is that I have a 1970 F100 302 with a 2 barrell motorcraft carb and it screams down the road, tons of power. So does it matter 2 or 4? Any ideas will help. |
the reason you have no power i because there are no sensors to tell the computer how to make it run better. the computer relys on those sensors to be suppying it with constant information.
4 bbls are better for more power, but youll need a 4bbl intake |
OK. SO If I stick with the 2 bbl, and replace the ignition, I should get more horse power then what I currently have?
|
so why did you remove all the sensors? i can just imagine the list of codes. yea, a good set carb will give you more power than what you have now.

The sensors and the fuel injection was all removed before I got the vehicle. I am just trying to get it to run better. I love driving it, but hate it when some fly's by me or when I want to pass grandpa and can't because my gas pedal is already all the way to the floor. I need to squeeze some muscle out of this 351W.

if all the p o did was unplug them, you could hook them back up, or get the wiring you need from a parts truck and hook it all back up.

the sensors are gone! nada... The computer is still there to run the EEC-iv ignition, but it doesn't advance like it should because there are no sensors and I would be playing russian roulett getting them from a salavage yard, plus I think it would end up costing more to put back to OEM, then to fix what I have.
