Oil Splash Plates in valve adjustment chamber?

Can any body help with the number and positioniong of the oil splash plates that fit into the valve adjustment gallery on my 1949 226 7AH 6 cylinder engine.
I removed two when stripping the engine down, one is shorter than the other.
Both have a sort of spring clip that fits under the cover plate securing bolt.
I wonder if there should be three of them? and what there purpose is and where the short one fits.Does the cover plate with the breather tube have one fitted ?
Perhaps someone has a drawing which shows the assembly .
Many Thanks In anticipation
Knightcharger.

I finishished adjusting the valves on my 226 three days ago. What I found was three splash gaurds. The center one is the long one, the ones on the ends matched each other and are short.

I wasn't sure which valve setting to use because I don't know what cam is in it. I went middle ground and now it sound like I have some tapping in the valve train, I'm wondering if I got the clearance to large. I used .013" for the intake valves and .018" for the exhaust. Does anyone know if this would be the cause of the noise?
