Twin Turbo Duramax uses 7.3 Ford turbos!
Watching Extreme 4x4 TV show, they are doing a build up of an old Subruban into a Fake Hummer and they pulled the 350 Chev to drop in a Duramax with Allison trans. They got Gale Banks to install twin turbos on it, only they are not chev/duramax turbos, they had to use TWO 7.3 Ford turbos to make the power they wanted! Awesome :) MAke a Chev go fast, remember to use FORD parts!! :)
This is the first use of this kit that will be available thru Banks Engineering for the Duramx engines |
it isn't a "ford" turbo ford just uses them.

it is a intresting show... saw the first part last weeken... but one of my buddy told me he seen it a while back so i take it its a re-run..... But I can't lie, I have been "thinking" about it doing one.:D I like the wagon hummer.
here is the site that makes them with intresting info. http://4x4bodies.com/home.php |
If you noticed they are also using a Ford Style 205 Tcase.
|
All I heard them say was Ford 7.3 turbos :)
If FORD doesn't make them, I still find it amusing that a part used only for FORDS(as far as I know) is needed to make the Duramax more powerful :) |
Or it's the one they chose for looks or this paticular project perhaps. There are plenty of ways to make a Duramax have more power, none of which require Ford parts.
|
I watched the same show and they said that they were the Gale Banks turbos meant for the single turbo banks kit for the 7.3 ford diesel. they expect 800 HP and 1000 lbft of torque. they probably could have gotten more from a ford diesel!
|
I doubt it, seems if they wanted more and could get it from a Ford Diesel they would have done it.
Since after all, they used the "Ford" turbos. |
The truck is an R&D project for Gale Banks. They are using it for a test bed for a new twin turbo D-max. I think he's pretty much donating the parts.
