1976 Granada rearend question

i just bought a 76 granada to chop up for parts to put in my 66 mustang. i looked up the rearend and it suposedly has eather an 8.7 or 8.8 inch rearend. was wondering if those old late 70's rearends r better than the 60's 8 inch, which i have in mine. im thinkin i should keep my 8 inch. also came on a website that said only the 77 and up granada front disk brakes will work on a conversion from a drum brake 66 mustang, is this true?

I have read that some granada's came with a 9 inch, and unless I am mistaken didn't the granada's come with the 8 inch standard anyway!

No to stronger.

Yes to the swap.

I answered the questions in the order you asked them.

ok million, u got me really confused, i asked if ONLY the 77 and up granadas will work for the front disk swap to a 66 mustang. i got a 76.you said yes, so i took it like what i heard was true- only the 77 and up granadas breaks will work on a 66 mstang, and my 76 grnada wont. as to the rearend size, thats what the auto zone website gave me in the choices for the rearends.

AFAIK, ALL the Granada's & Mercury Monarch's disk brakes would swap over to the 66 Mustang.

Have you checked with the Classic Mustang sites ?

That was their claim to fame around this part of the world :)

The 8.8 rear in the 70's IMO, wasn't any stroneger than the 8.8 in the 60's
