water pump

any one have recomdations on a water pump? mine i think is done for. it is a 292 but has the heavy duty/ fan mount type on it. ( the fan has a big wide belt and adjust off the flange on the pump. and then the pulley runs the gen and wp and around the crank.) thanks

Before I moved from the midwest, there was an auto supply place there, something like Carquest but dont remember, and you could turn your pump in, they would send it off, and a rebuilder would process it. You got your same pump back, like new.
You can get a 1954 pump at Concours, www.concoursparts.com , part number EAT 8501, 2004 price $119.00.
The part number for the 1954 unit is different than for 1956-64. Also, the 1956-64 truck pumps have a slightly larger diameter armature than those for autos, and the pulleys for the trucks have a larger center hole than the autos have.
Since you have a 292, it doesnt seem like the 1954 pump should be required as long as your fan/shroud/radiator configuration works out. In other words, like 312 said, you could run either a car or truck pump, 1956-64, with the corresponding pulley, with fan mounted on front of pump. If I am wrong here it shows my unfamiliarity with the 1954 motors. Belt would be narrow for the auto and wide for the truck. Auto pulley would be larger in diameter than truck, thus slowing water flow, which could be good or bad depending upon load sizes and whether or not rear has been regeared.
