93 ranger blinker/trailer wire harness

I went to auto zone and bought one of them plug in things for the back. when i pluged it into my trailer it worked fine. But after hitting the breaks a fiew times my abs light came on and my blinkers stoped working. so i checked the fuse. put a new one in and it was fine. then it did the same thing. so i put in a 20 amp fuse and it blew too. is the problem that the trailer is pulling to much power and blowing my fuse or is it something else? how can i fix this problem? i dont have a manual so idk what size fuse is actualy supost to be in there or how big i can go.

thanks
james

sounds like you may have a short in the trailer hookup. If they work without the trailer and then blow the fuse when it is hooked up I would start checking either the connector or for a short in the wiring system. One time I put a 4 wire round recepticle in and when I used it the first time it blew the fused link on the battery. Turns out that there was a piece of one of the wires touching the recepticle. if yours is a flat 4 pin I would check all splices on the trailer and where ever you spliced into the truck. Just a thought.

It could also be a short in the wiring on the trailer.
