89 bronco window
 

Heving trouble with rear window--again--last time cost me over $350. The back switch wont work--front switch won't work---staight leads to motor from battery will move window but very slow---bought new motor---need tips for taking old out...is there such a thing as running a diret line from the battery to a non-factory switch and mounting in cab--by passing all the fuss? need ideas or repair advise.

Sure you could bypass the stock wiring but I think if you have any electrical knowledge it will be worth the money to check it out yourself. First I'd check the fuse thats easy. Then I'd check to make sure there is power getting to the front switch which is pretty easy. Pull the screw under the steering wheel and then the panel has some snaps that you can pull out. Now there are many ways to go about the rest of this. I would suggest to drop the tailgate (depending on its position this can be easy or not; if up remove panel and jumper the motor, if down pull on the handle :p ) Removing the motor for replacement if fairly self explanatory when you get to this point. If you need more help let me know I can walk you through that. Now test the rear switch to make sure power is getting there. Now test the motor plug to make sure power is getting there.

Now hopefully you've found that the problem is between point A and B. Which sounds like a bigger deal than it is. The whole thing should take a half hour. Then its just a matter of seeing which wire is broken and replacing or repairing it. A common area for breaks is where the wires enter the tailgate.

The other things you should know are the window has a saftey feature that won't allow it to open if the tailgate is open or if the tailgate latches aren't closed. You can drop the tailgate and lock each mechanism to test this. When you remove the motor be careful with your hands in there if the tailgate is up it can fall and chop your hands off if down the regulator is spring loaded and can also chop your hands off (that maybe an overstatement but I sure as he!! don't want to find out)

I have replaced the motor--then greased the runners--went up once with the dash switch--then down--then back up and then back down then wham---nothing--no power--window down and can't reach the motor or wires now----now what --any way to manually raise the glass???? stuck and looking for mechanics phone ## wallet get ready if I can't get glass up--hot wired off battery before when I could reach wires--now can't reach wires??? help

Yeah you'll have to reach in and remove the window from the runners. There are four studs with nuts then remove the runners from the regulator.
