clutch decisions
Time to get a new clutch. I need ideas on what kind to get. I would like one that can handle more power but not so much, I just have minor mods.I would like one that is alot easier to push the peddel down. Any sugestions would be great. Also I am wondering how hard it is to install yourself. just a side thought. Thanks guys in advance

i would go with a southbend con o its good for about 350hp and pedal is real nice on it.
the install isnt hard with the right tools. just time consuming. since you have a lift on the truck it makes it easier to do it in the driveway. gotta have a big tranny jack. theres no man handling that tranny and transfer case out. take them out as a unit and go back in like that too. |
What BBJake said. I recently had my transmission out for a clutch release fork and that sucker is HEAVY. No way can you manhandle that thing unless your Samson.
Another brand that is good is LUK. |
Thanks guys I'll take a lool at those. Yeah I guess I wont be putting it in myself....dont have a trannie jack. :( Oh well

There's always a rental....... |
thats true Kwikkordead but if man if I drop that I'd have to part the truck out...I dought I could afford a transmission, especially if the truck was on a lift. I did take a look at the luk clutches but man there are alot of different ones, are the stronger ones harder to push in the pedel....Im looking up the southbound con right now to see what they have. Aslo this tranmission repair shop told me that the factor oem clutch in our trucks is a luk clutch is this true.

OEM clutches are Valeo brand, I think. With the stiff pedal.

Got one quick question to ask, how do I tell if my truck has a single or duel mass fly-wheel
|
I am not sure on this but I thought that all 99-03 7.3's had single mass flywheels. Mine is, but then it's a 550 and lot's of things are different on it. Shocks, brake pads, etc. made for heavier duty.

Unluckylow. The standard LUK repset will hold all your current mods can throw at it and some. It's also the least expensive of the aftermarket clutches. And you can get it through a forum sponsor http://www.carolinaclutch.com/pr01.htm
You do already have a SMFW, but the LUK will come with a replacement FW anyways. |
