Just bought my bronco, ready to rip it apart !
 

Hi, I just purchased an 89 EB bronco with a 302 EFI and all of that wonderfull jazz.

Truck is in horrible condition(200$ cash), I purchased it as a learning vehicle primarily.

After reading over the forums I figured out it has some rather nasty blow by, no power whatsoever, a nice list of codes I pulled.

I'm ready to rip into this guy :)

My question pretty much boils down to......

What would it take to pull the engine ?
I've done some minor auto work in my time, but never pulled an engine.
Keep in mind I purchased the vehicle to work with and learn from so I want to do it all myself(Within reason).

Would it be something so overwhelming that i'd end up hanging myself before I ever got it out ? or would it just take some hard work and a weekend ?

Truck needs plenty of work and the engine just seems like the place to start ?
Buddy of mine said once I get it out he'll have it dragged over to his shop for some tinkering or whatnot.

Anywho, with the right tools and some elbow grease would this be reasonable goal for a newcomer ?

You can get the engine out in a weekend easy, with the right tools and some elbow grease. It also helps to have a good service manual....even the cheap Haynes manuals are pretty good. If you have a digital camera you can foolproof it by snapping a pic of everything you remove..makes it easier to remember where it came from.

Oh, and bag and mark every piece of hardware you remove..it makes reassembly so much easier than digging through a bucket of bolts tryng to remember what came off of where.

I've got a whole box of wal-mart bags and a sharpie ready to go for the morning now.

Also, you want too label each wire you take off the engine.
If your not dropping the tranny, then you need too strap it up, and this is a good time to replace the front seal on it.
