Excursion Diesel vs Hummer H1 Diesel Tug of War

Competition is this Tuesday 09.19.05
I have an '05 Eddie Baur 4x4 6.0 Powerstroke and the competittion in a Hummer H1 OHV Turbo-Diesel 6.5L.
Mine is stock I think the other one will be too.

Who will win?

Any good tire ticks? Or other tips?

How about throttle level?
Any comments/experience to add?

thanks ~phreaqhopp

You'll be bumper-to-bumper, right? If so, make sure you use about 250 feet of chain, and get a running start.

Excursion v Hummer Tug of War

Well I was thinking on hooking up to my tow hitch and gaoing taught at about 75 to 100 feet. I am not looking to damage any vehicles or spectators.

Any tire pressure suggestions?

Any good tire ticks?

Change yours if they're stock:-D
If I recall correctly the H1 has 37x12.50 tires and a 41:1 low range. If he airs down to 20 PSI or so he will pull you. You've got more motor, he's got a bigger contact patch and lower gearing.

More weight over the rear axle = more traction, less axle hop and less slippage. In other words, put a bunch of cement bags in the back of your X.

Stock Pull

I think we are gonna take it pretty much stock, no added weight (except girls from the gentleman's club lol!)

I guess I am pretty much limited to tire pressure, fuel additives, throtteling, any PSI recommendations for my stock tires? You really think the gearing vs -100 Hp and -100 ft. lbs. of torque?

Monkey Boy 09-14-2005 02:16 PM

The higher hitch will almost always win. You pull the other vehicle up and unweight his rear tires.

Hunter40 09-14-2005 02:19 PM

Doesn't the H1 substantially outweigh the ex ? I would think that would be to a disadvantage on your part.

phreaqhopp 09-14-2005 02:30 PM

Weighing in....

No the H1 curb weight is only 7,213 lbs. amd the Excursion is a whopping 7,725lbs.

my advice, hold your breakes till he starts spinning the tires, he will most likely be in the lowest possible gear and break traction fairly easy, if you stand on the brakes of your X, once he starts spinning ease away gently so you dont break traction, if both of you break traction it could be a stalemate (his increased footprint versus your extra weight) or he might get enough traction to pull you with the wider tires.

oops I meant 7558 for the H1 vs 7,725lbs Excursion

put the x-fer cases in 4 wheel low, and start in 2nd grear (on your ford if you put the shifter in 2nd it start and stay in that gear) ease on the power, if you hammer it right at the start and spin the tires you will lose. the H1 has a huge advantage with its much larger tires. you should have raced him instead.

Make sure you have the same tire width or you're at a disadvantage. Stock is stock, and I realize that, but you're looking at different setups. Law of physics takes over at some point.

And Tuesday is the 20th....just so you won't miss it. :)
