'86 Bronco II Hesitation and Stalling

Have '86 BII XLT EFI auto w/ 210K Miles (original owner). After the car warms up while driving - when i let up on the gas pedal the car feels like it is hesitating and has begun to cut off when I slow to a stop - it will start back up. Took it to the dealer and they code not find the problem. It appears to be stalling more frequently. At first I though it was the transmission going but know that the engine cuts off while driving I think it may be electrical...?

...Welcome to Ford Truck Enthusiasts!
Could be the elec module inside the Dist Cap, mine has done it twice in 80K worth of miles, cools off runs great.
We are happy you have chosen the best source for Fords!

Welcome to FTE!!!

I would start with a tune up/fuel filter/air filter if it hasn't been done and then pull the codes and test the fuel pressure.

Have just swapped out plugs, wires (one had a cut in it) as well as the cap and rotor - will drive test soon. (by the way have had O2, throttle body position sensor and fuel injector cleaning 30 days ago)

I saw a link on one posting for how to test for fault codes by shorting the two cables that go to the code reader with a paper clip then you count the blinking dash lights - does someone have this link or additional info on how to do this??

The link is in the tech info thread at the top of this forum. On your year you'll need to use the meter method, still real easy.

Looks like I am back and running!!
Thanks for the info....I replaced Plugs, Wires, Cap and Rotor. Bad plug wire was the suspected cause - as the car got warmer (i am in Texas) the resistance would build.

Glad to hear she's running good again!!

Sounded to me like it was the cap, rotor, and wires, maybe even plugs too. Good to hear you got it fixed.
