O/T: 400 Dodge glowing manifolds(Propane)

Ok, no dodge jokes/ bashing here please. I got a '77 Dodge D150 for a work truck, it seems to run fine but I have been going over everything, changed the exhaust(dual 2.5" and glasspacks) checked the propane system and copied the settings fron an identical truck/engine with an identical propane system (Vialle model D) and power timed it because the ring on the damper turns over the years same as the newer 460s causing the marks to go out of whack. Now thast I know its not a fuel or timing problem I can't figure this one out. It is starting to look like my only alternative is to go to a 360 and a 4bbl mixer that I have setup for it before I lose the valves in this one. Any ideas on what would cause this? I'm heading outside with a steathascope in the morning to check on a noise in the engine(sounds like timing chain or valve train).

sounds like vacuum advance to me. I start by replacing all of the vacuum lines, and confirming base timing. even if it means a static check with #! at TDC on compression stroke and adjusting the poointer.

A Dodge with a slipped timing chain is a dead one. bent valves and push rods.

sounds like way to much advance.

Here is what I know so far, its at 10 deg. BTDC base timing and has 35 deg. total mech. advance. (at the time of the conversion) The engine holds a steady 190 degrees temp, but the manifolds were glowing, I am now in the middle of port work while converting to a 4 barrel intake and mixer. My dad's power timing method has never lost a dodge or ford engine yet so I'm pretty sure it is good there but I am going to check where the marks are when at TDC still once I get it all back together. Also I think its due for a cam, it looks a bit worn for a 150,000 KM engine.

wont a choked exhaust cause glowing manifolds like pluged cat or a rag shoved into the colecter

It would but I don't have that probem, I did just get them to quit glowing or so it seems. That was after port matching and slightly modding a stock 4bbl intake to the point that it comes alive at about 2k rpm, and playing with the timing, advanced it to where it would kick back when cranking then turned it to where it just stopped doing that. But now it burnt, about 1/2 of a 273 litre tank. (to work and home then to the dump and back, filled the tank last night)

Sounds like it's running too lean. Sorry if that's obvious or has been stated before.

New update here, I started checking again, found out the timing chain is jumping, seems when i checked the last time it had jumpped back in, the next time the rotor was almost to the #8 wire on the cap with #1 at TDC. Also the Vialle Converter/Regulator calved on me yesterday, started pumping tank pressure to the engine. Now has a Model E on the fender and all is well other than the chain.
