How do I remove the oil pan on my 2000 Ranger?
We have a 2000 XLT 4X4 with a 4.0L engine. We have taken out all the screws on the oil pan and lifted the engine, but still can not get the oil pan out. Can anyone please tell us how to get the oil pan the rest of the way out, so we can check the bearings?

As far as I know, the engine must be removed, or at least significantly raised with a crane or hoist, in order to remove the oil pan on a 4.0L 4x4. I've never heard of any short cuts to that, sorry. :( What are you gettting hung up on? |

You'll need to raise the engine enough so that the pan will clear the bottom of the main caps and pump pickup. You might have to jack it up a good 6" to get enough clearance.
