Biodiesel???

On the show Trucks, about a month ago, they did a show on making biodiesel from waste vegetable oil. They say its better for the motor and only costs about $.70 a gallon. I live in <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />Northern California where two weeks ago diesel cost $2.49 a gal and it’s up to $3.19 today. Has anybody tried this biodiesel?

I understand there is lots of information on Biodiesel on the net but has anyone who is not trying to profit off selling kits used it? I have also heard that pouring used motor oil into your tank 1qt per fill up will get you more power and mileage. Sounds to me like all you would get is bad engine problems.

I've been using biodiesel from soyoil for about 6 years. I've had no problems other than when first started using it had to change my filters after the first few tankfulls. This is because #2 diesel has some particles which naturally settle to the bottom of the tank creating a sludge. The biodiesel cleans all this out and keeps it clean. I currently am using B10 or 10% soyoil with premium diesel.

I own a farm and currently have 6 diesel engines on the farm ranging in age of 1967 (with 7000 hours on tractor) to the 2004 (6.0) This includes a 1979 semi. I have noticed that there is less smoke and some horsepower pickup in most of the equipment.
