1997 F350 7.3 L PS towing capacity?

I am about to purchase a 97 f-350 w/ 7.3 ps diesel. Never had one before. I am buying to replace my 88 chev with a 454 v8 gas. Can anyone tell me what the towing capacity of the 97 truck is? I am wanting to tow my 9000Lb 5th wheel and possibly anothe 3000+lb trailer in tandem. Will the 7.3 handle the load?
Thanks in advance.

Check out www.trailerlife.com.
they have a complete list of tow ratings for all trucks.
Very informative.

give us a little more about the truck, but i dont think 12K pounds would hurt it, i think it is right at its rated compacity

Lead_Foot 08-05-2005 07:31 PM

my 87 460/c6/4x4/4.10 would handle that load no sweat, im sure the diesel should do the job.

The 97 can handle the load. Both of my 97's could haul that kind of load. Bobcat on trailer about 10,000 lbs. If this is an automatic the addition of tranny cooler and trans temp gauge is a must for the health of the e4od tranny. Along with trailer brake controler of course.

97F350 if I recall with 3.55's were rated for 17500lbs CGVW, I should look for my owners manual

1997F-350 09-05-2006 06:23 PM

it all depends on:

4x4 or 4x2
5 speed or auto
3.55 or 4.10
drw or srw

Don't tell the DOT man but I've towed over 25,000# on a goose neck with no problems. `95 1 ton PowerStroke.

From owner's manual: 1997 F-250 HD, F-350, and F- Super Duty.

Regular cab- 7.3 diesel 3.55 rear- 16000 lbs (10100 trailer weight)
4.10 rear 20000 lbs (14000 trailer weight).

yeah, everything depends from wheel base to 4x4 or 4x2, need more info

I've put 5500lbs on my 87 nissan 1/4ton truck in sandbags stacked over the cab onto the roof from the box, drove around my yard fine.

Just cause you can do it, does not mean its safe, espeacialy when the family will be with riding in the truck
