Anyone brewing biodiesel?
 

Have been reading about folks on the internet making biodiesel from used fry oil and fueling their Jettas and older indirect injection diesels with it, and I'm wondering if this may be an option for me and others who own Ford diesels.

Are there any 7.3L Powerstroke owners making their own biodiesel and running it in their trucks? Anyone running it in a 2002 or newer engine systems?

Just dumped my first batch in. Making it from WVO, and only to help lubricate the injectors, and lower the cost a bit per fill. Mainly the lubrication thing. $300 per injector adds up pretty quick for something that should pay for itself. I just completed making my proccessor and should be picking up the methanol today. Hopefully I'll have it in the truck next week.

Thanks for the link. Really interested in how this works out for you. I've been wanting to try a small batch myself and mix it in 20% or so just to start, but worries about messing up my engine ('02 PSD) has kept me grounded. Any suggestions/advice about what makes a good biodiesel processor?

I would check out journeytoforever.org There are a few different proccessors there and you can biuld the one that most suits your application/space/ability(assembly)/wallet. I think I spent about $50 on valves and pipe. Everything else was ripped out of my old dairy barn or found. Except for the hot water tank. That I got from my Dad. He does appliance stuff and happened to have one somebody threw out that worked just fine??? I haven't made a batch yet. I got the methanol, but haven't been able to find the Lye or indicators for titration.
Google "homebrew biodiesel" and you'll get lots of hits to check out.

Yes, I've seen and printed some stuff from this site as well; looks like good information. Keep me informed as your "brewery" develops...

Go to www.dieselsecret.com and check out what they are pushing. Looks very interesting and cheap using wvo, peanut oil, palm oil, etc. The question is, will it void my 6.0 warranty if something does go wrong?

fuel prices here in maine are approaching $2.70+ per gallon and i'm seriously looking for alternatives.

i was looking at diesel-secret's website and it looks very interesting. does anyone have first hand experience with their product??
i guess it just sounds too good to be true. worried about damaging my engine with long term use.

It seems alot of people are interested in this bio-diesel stuff. All the links Iv'e seen on the net are posted in this thread already. I am going to whip up a batch of the Dr.Pepper bottle stuff this weekend if I can find the lye.
Not sure I'm ready to dump it in my '01 7.3 just yet. Thought I might look around for a VW golf or Rabbit diesel to play with. I drive 75 miles round trip to work so I've been seriously thinking about this myself................

This system got my attention cause it seems so easy to do. No heating oil or anything. Almost seems to good to be true. Has anyone ever tried this system. I just dont like companies that want to sell you something but dont offer a phone #. There out of Lancaster CA so anyone out there near them and want to check them out let me know. Thanks
