fiberglass topper storage?
 

I have a fiberglass topper that I want to take off and install a soft tonneau cover. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to store a fiberglass topper? (lay it flat, prop against a wall, build a stand in the garage) was just curious what others did when there not mounted on there trucks. Great forums, THX

As far as storage, the only way I have seen it stored at any cap/cover sellere is like it would be sitting on the truck, not on sides or front/rear. Only thing I can suggest would be to build a rack of some sort that it can lay on. Maybe even hang the rack from your garage ceiling if enough room and assuming you have a garage.
Sort of like I hang my extension ladder in my shed. With chains holding it up.

When I store my wifes hard top for her jeep, I just put down 4 x 4's like it was sitting on the vehicle. I also put a tarp over it to keep it from fading in the sun. I use the 4x4's because I store it in back of the house and have to mow near it. Never have any probs with it.

I used to do the same thing with my other truck, but I didn't store that for long periods of time. Just when I needed to move bigger stuff.

I just bought a used lightweight fiberglass top which had been sitting on a trailer for years, unfastened. It sits just a little wider than it should on my bed, and we wonder if sitting unfastened to anything in the hot sun caused it to spread a little. I had to use a rope with a truckers hitch to pull the sides together enough for the back hatch latches to engage. Then I bolted it in place.

If possible, I'd suggest building a rack that you would bolt the top to, so the sides don't shift or settle/spread.

Thanks for all the info, I did get it off the truck last night (by myself) and it is a bit heavier then I thought! I think I will try hanging it from the rafters in my garage/shed and then either put a strap around or some wooden blocks on each side to keep the sides from bowing out of shape. I may find some help to get it lifted up on my rack though:) I will send pics once I get it done. THX MoJo

What I would suggest is hang 2x4s from the rafters and set the cover on the 2x4s. That would be as close as you can get to setting on the bed rails. You could keep the cover from spreading by c-clamping the cover to the 2x4s.
