Big Suprise

I went to the local Shucks Auto Parts Store to pickup an oil filter for my 80 Corvette. When I picked up the Fram filter reference book I noticed it had listings for 1950 thru 1980 model years. So out of curiosity I looked to see if it had a listing for my 51 226. To my suprise it did and there was a Fram C4P on the shelf right in front of me. May seem like no big deal to some of you, but in this neck of the woods it's a big suprise.

That's nice, because my local Schucks doesn't have anything, and can't seem to get anything for the old Fords. Maybe it's because half the people that work there don't even know what points are.

A lot of the problem with the CSK (Checker Shucks Kragen) stores is that they use a computer system that doesn't go back as far as most other places. I used to work at Kragen in 2000, the farthest back the system went then was '67. Anything else and we would have to pull out the paper catalogs. That is pretty cool though to find a filter for a 50 y.o. engine in stock.

ah,da, what are points? thats what i got at a local advanced auto parts when i went in for parts for my 53 f100 239

I here ya. I'm only 27 (28 in 24 days), but I grew up in old Ford cars and trucks. I thought points were going to be part of the ignition system for ever there for a while.

this kid looked like he had never heard of them. much less a 53 f100 with a flathead head 8 . i took him out side to show him the truck and he asked how do you shift it? "3 on the tree"

I have a Checker Auto Parts close to where I live. It is a great place to buy floor mats, including those with a cartoon characters, corporate logos, and flames. But, for serious auto parts and some knowledge behind the counter, I am still going to NAPA.

I'm only 28, but I fooled with older vehicles for a while with my grandfather. The best comment I've heard so far was when I stopped by a place in my falcon & one of the guys (not much younger than me) wanted to know what the car had for an engine. "Just a little inline six," I told him. "You mean a V6, right?" "Naw, an inline 6." Next thing I know I'm out there with the hood popped, showing him what an inline 6 is. His parting comment, "Wow, thats cool, I've never seen one of those, when did they start building them?

Yea, I had my 51 F1 at a car show a few weeks ago and I herd a lot of people shaking there heads and saying they didn't know Ford ever used a Flathead 6.
