F-150 diesel
 

I found this interesting tid-bit of info on another site and not sure where it come from or how much truth there is to it, maybe someone here can help with this.

Mercedes-Benz may be the first automaker to reveal an aggressive North American strategy for diesel engines, but it probably won’t be the last.

More fuel-saving diesel engines are expected to be introduced starting around 2007. That’s because low-sulfur diesel fuel — with 15 parts per million of sulfur instead of the current 500 parts per million — will become available nationwide in the fall of 2006. The change will help diesels meet stricter emissions standards.

Here’s the diesel outlook for several automakers:

— BMW: The X5 SUV will get a diesel in the 2007 model.

— Chrysler group: A new diesel-powered version of the Jeep Liberty is selling above expectations. DaimlerChrysler is considering diesels for the Chrysler 300 sedan and Jeep Grand Cherokee.

— Ford Motor Co.: Ford has formed a North American diesel team that is integrating diesels into cars and trucks. The Ford F-150 pickup and Focus sedan are candidates for a diesel.

— General Motors: Charles Freese, GM’s head of diesel engineering, says light trucks and SUVs will be the focus of the company’s diesel efforts. Meanwhile, GM is limited in the number of Duramax V-8 truck diesels it can build at its capacity-constrained Moraine, Ohio, engine plant. GM could source smaller displacement diesels from Europe.

— Honda: A diesel Accord is being considered for North America.

— Nissan: The Titan pickup is a strong candidate for a diesel, either from a U.S. engine source, such as International Truck and Engine Corp., or from Japan.

— Toyota: The Tundra pickup is considered a likely candidate for a diesel. Toyota’s diesel plans should be clearer once production starts at its San Antonio truck plant next spring.

ford was toying with a V6 250 hp diesel a few years ago for the 150, but dropped it.blue oval news had it listed back in 02 or 03

Well, by golly, GM might actually have a diesel very light duty ANYTHING before 2050! I do not know about only having to use the DMAX plant.....since they already have a China plant (and the Chinese ripped off their Chevy QQ car!), why not make 3.3L I4 Dmaxes to go in the lighter duty rigs? Like a Tahoe really needs an 800+lb diesel v8 under the hood...

The Diesel Liberty selling ABOVE expectations? Please tell me DCX's expectations were for more Liberty's to be sold with a diesel than HD Rams! Otherwise, their head brass sucks, too!

Yeah, Ford, you're gettin' some, too! How about that Ranger 2.8L diesel from the Brazil Navi plant??? I don't care if that Brazilian Ranger is a rebadged Mazda or not (or is it just the eastern hemisphere that gets the Rangers as rebadged Mazdas?), that crew cab would be okay, too. Or lob a diesel in with the Exploder Sport Trac if the Ranger CC would cut in their sales.

As for everyone else mentioned, well, we know it's not them playing catch up, so they don't need our help.

I hate to say it but if the price of diesel doesn't go down. I will get rid of my f-250. Between the price of parts and fuel It's killing me. I will just keep the f-150.Glowplugs 8.99 rotors don't go there. Labor costs depends on if I can fix it myself. Say your prayers if it is the fuel pumps. $179.95 for between tanks, $389.95 for the main pump without tax and labor.

Actualy it is the other way around the Mazda is a rebadge Ranger.

This one is real easy. They're already building them in SC and shipping them overseas. I toured the plant and it was really strange seeing the diesels being made her in the USA along with right hand drives.

In the US it is, its the otherway around in the rest of the world.

Didn't the Ranger have a Diesel? Who made that? It would probably be way small for a F-150 but cool idea then again Diesel where I live is 2.59 a gallon so it hurts when I go to the pump but a small inline that got 35mpg in a F-150 would sell some trucks not sure if it would have the power we americans like but it would be cool to see.

All anybody sees are the numbers at the pump. Figure higher fuel mileage, so longer between fill ups, and long engine life, so you can keep your vehicle after it's paid for and not have to worry.

Do you know the numbers of when I will catch up I think it's 150,000 or something like that don't get me wrong I love my PSD but I didn't buy it for MPG I wish it did better but for a full size truck I don't complian.
I still would love to see a little diesel in the 150 and ranger it would be cool.
