Brake controller for 77 F-250
 

Would my old 77 F-250 super cab have a proper place to plug in a brake controller, or even a factory harness to hook up the wires for the fifth wheel I am going to buy, seems the new vehicles have places set up, but wonder if the older trucks have hook up points, would save me starting from scratch.

I'm pretty sure you will have to start from scratch unless its a camper special, I would try to find on of the older style that hook to the brake line and use hydraulic pressure to activate the controller

I have about the same truck you do. A 77 F250 custom with a 4speed .I wired mine and it was a pice of cake.When you get you controler it will have a wireing diagram.I am no machnic and had no problem.

Well I dug through my late uncles stuff, I came across a brake controller he had kicking around, it says on it, original Kelsey-Hayes automatic electric brake controller, the date inside is July 1964. Hey maybe I can make it work?
I am kidding, I think this would be a collectors item.

It's only four wires, don't sweat it, no problem just follow the directions.

I tow with my '78 Crew Cab, purchased a Tekonsh Prodigy, works great, no complaints. Easy to wire in. Like SLE said follow the directions.

The KH controller will work but you need the adjustable resistor that goes with it. Then it will still be primitive compared to an inertial controller! And it takes the same amount of wiring as an all electric controller does anyway. So yeah, keep it to bumfoozle the grandkids with and get a modern controller!

I put a Prodigy on my truck about 5 years ago. I still have the old KH unit sitting in the garage. I don't know why I don't get rid of it! After I tried the Prodigy the for first time, it was one of those forhead smacking moments... what took me so long? :-huh D'oh!
