ny state inspection help
 

so i went to get my excursion inspected and it came up
oxygen sensor not ready
oxygen sensor heater not ready

what do i need to do to fix this?
i drive over the road so i only have till friday to fix this before i'm gone for 4 weeks (i'llbe wayyyy out of date then)

have you thought about replacing the o2 sensor :-huh

i had the o2 sensors replaced in january that did not help so i went to ford and they found a wiring harness problem and fix it

so i tried to set the o2 seensore to day no luck i will have to go to a dealer . the thing is did the tech that worked on the wiring harness do it wrong? and that is why the computer will not set the code . or is it that the computer will need to be flashed/ updated? at wits end

Most just remove battery cable, check your manual for how long cable must be off to clear codes. My bronco 30 minutes GM use to be 10 minutes. Your computer has to relearn all the setting and you must run the engine at xxx RPM for a few mintes, so you need to know this or it will run crappy..

the problem is not that the code need to clear they will not reset

Well after some 12 hours of service time the dealer cannot set the o2 sensors.
They flashed the ECM and called ford hot line twice no help
Ny has that if you spend $450. And they cannot fix the problem you can get an inspection sticker. So I’m still not any closer to figuring this out. Does anyone have the ford dealer rep (regional) name and number for buffalo dealers?

Hey listen i have F-150 98 and i had the same problems you had but when they checked my truck out with the comp. 5 things came up.I know o2 sensor was 1 of them with 4 more what my guy told me was to get on highway and drive truck at like 60mph for 50 miles and they will start to reset.So when i brought it back to get the inspection there was only 2 on and they can pass your truck with 2 on.So dont let them jerk or bull**** you.Let me know how youmake out!!!

What do you mean "set the sensor" ?

It sounds like it hasn't passed the O2 sensor and O2 sensor heater test. Is the check engine light on? Are there actual CODES logged, or is it that it didn't pass those two diagnostics?

You might have to drive the crap out of it to get it to pass those two diagnostics. My '
96 t-bird took a long time to pass those diagnostics...

It could very well be that since the work at the dealer, it hasn't been driven enough.

First off I have the printout from the New York state computer that you have to connect to pass the inspection and that is a direct quote from it The only thing I want now is the name and phone number of the district rep so I can fix my truck since the dealer is incompetent<O:p></O:p>

My E350 had the same problem. Originally I went through the drive program (Ford's from the owner's manual and NYS DMV's), but that didnt help. Ford dealership service tech I took it to knew immediately. NYS scans the registration wrong - listed my E350 in the 1-8500 pound weight class. They manuall set the weight class to 8501-10000 pounds, and I passed.

Maybe check and see.... just a shot in the dark.

well gibsondan your right i went to an aftermarket shop that tunes mustangs and they said the same thing. they called nys inspection department and had my inspection class changed to over 8500 lbs they also said the ford dealer should have done the same instead of charging me $450. now nys told the tuner shop that ford must give back the $450. we'll see how that goes

if anyone is still following this thread
i had the nys inspection guy out to my house and he told me that in a few years the state will change some of the license/or plates for the excursion and some f250 which have the same inspection /weight problems
the money well i'm still waiting to hear back :)
