loudfords' new winter truck
Just arrived at the farm last night. Sold my Ranger with a POS Chev 305 about a month ago, now I have it's replacement, a nice improvement.
I bought an 86 F150 302/AOD 2wd reg cab longbox for the princely sum of $600. Body is in real nice shape, just a couple dings and only 2 rust spots. As far as I can tell, the only things I need for safety are a new coil spring and to patch the floor on the driver's side. And man this thing is base model, not even a headliner! Just need a little TLC to get it back on the road, it has been sitting for a couple years, but it only has 170k km on it. I'll post some pictures as soon as I get my sticky fingers on a digital camera.... |
Yeah, that truck is the same as my old one. You should hear that thing without the headliner in a huge rainstorm! It is nuts! :)

Good chioce loudfords !!!
Base model = less junk. Lincolns are nice & base model trucks work. I prefer a truck to be simple and easy to clean. Carpet in a truck is, to me, a big no-no. Then again, some guys can stand the odor from old carpets. AL. :-wink |
I uploaded pictures of the 86 to my user gallery in an album titled (logically enough) 1986 F150. Sorry some of the pictures are kind of dark, took the pictures around 8 last night, truck was in the shadow of the shop. Should be getting some more work done on it this long weekend. :)

WHOA!! Awesome find :)

It's alive!!!
Finally got it running on Saturday. A bunch of new parts, a bunch of upgraded used parts. Runs not too bad, but has a hard time staying running when dropping from high to low idle - I suspect the IAC valve is a little stiff from sitting for so long.
New parts: -rear drums -1 parking brake cable -all shocks -v-belts Used parts: -LH coil spring -smog pump -battery -heater cable (thanks Jeff! :) ) -front & rear swaybars from 87 parts truck -battery tray from 87 parts truck -vent window from 87 parts truck -HD rad from 87 parts truck -mirrors from 87 parts truck -starter solenoid -negative battery cable -several light bulbs -turned front rotors Now, onto the floor, once I get the seat out - driver's side seat track is seized making it hard to get a the bolts. I got a decent floor from the wreckers, so now it's time to brush up my cutting and welding skills. Hopefully by year's end I'll have this beast on the road and I won't have to take my wife's car to work on snowy/salty days. (I do drive the 79 still when it's dry out). |
Way to go. Good to see you can still come across a bargain and put a little work into it to make it safe.!:)
|
Couple electrical gremlins to chase down too. Pulling the dash apart tonight to check the grounding of the instrument cluster/indicator lights.
Biggest problem I have with my 79 right now is with the insides of the windows frosting over after it has been parked a couple days. I had to pull over for a few minutes this morning to give my defrost some time to catch up. |
Thanks for the update Chad, glad to hear its coming together. It sounds like you are well on your way to having a dependable older ride. You've changed all the things that will keep it starting for the winter and with a new floor you'll stay a little warmer.

And drier! :)

Glad you finally got it fixed up a bit. Seeing those pictures makes me miss my 85 Flareside a bit. Mine had the fuel injected 5.0 as well. Great engine and starts nice.
