How long do the stock shocks last typicly on a 92 f150 4x4? I have 121K and still have org. How can you tell when you need to replace? It seems to drive ok, no noticible sagging in front or rear. Thanks

1st, I don't think shocks will be the cause of a sagging truck, ride height is the job of the springs. If your rig is still level, you should be OK. If the the truck was driven easy and primarily on road, shocks could last a long time, 121k is probably pushing it though no matter what, you sure you aren't just used to a bouncy ride? Supposedly there is a test (jounce it and count the rebound bounces, 3=bad) but I wouldn't trust that. You should be able to tell there condition, when you cruise over some good pot holes, does the truck get a little crazy? Time for shocks. Check your tire wear, does your tread look unevenly worn? Patchy wear? Time for shocks. Depends on what you do with the truck, plan on doing some off roading? Definitely get some good off road shocks. Post you truck and ask for recomendations on good off road shocks, you should get some good opinions. Good luck!

They need replaced with that many miles. Factory ones aren't that good anyway. I have Gabriel VST LT shocks on my 4X4. They are about $17.00 each at Autozone, they seem like good shocks for the money.

I also got the Gabriels, but I have not been too happy with them. I had replaced the stock front shocks with a set from Sears at around 50K. Neither of the stock units were still functioning at that point.

At 110K, I installed 4 of the Gabriels, and they seem a bit too soft for my liking. Of course, the stock units were super stiff, so the ride is a little more "Car-like" now. I don't see that as a good thing, given that I don't have sway-bars, and recently removed the plastic air dam from my front bumper. I prefer a stiffer ride myself.
