95 Broken Front Parking Brake Cable

I purchased a 95 E150 with a broken front parking brake cable. Looking underneath the van there is an "empty" cable housing under the drivers side seat. Several inches away there are the two rear brake cables with balls on the ends just sticking out with nothing to connect to.

I assume the steel cable broke inside the cable housing at the far end, and the equalizer just fell off after that. I removed the parking brake mechanism from under the dash to see if I could replace the cable.

My first question is : Is it possible to replace just the inner cable as the cable housing appears to be in excellent condition? / Or do I need to buy a complete cable from Ford?

Second question: Is there a damned trick to installing the cable ball into the brake mechanism. I wiggled and pulled my old cable out of the mechansim, but it looks likes it's almost impossible to get back in.

With that new of a truck, the junk yard would be your best bet to get the whole thing which would solve both problems.

On my 95 f350 there wasn't an adjuster....Just the equilizer bar... There is a spring in the pedal assembly that is suppossed to keep the slack out....
You might be better off to pull the pedal assembly off to put the new cable in.

I think you can only get the cable with the sheath on it already.
