MSD: Digital Propane Injection
Anyone tried the product?
They claim it works well w/ tuners and adds up to 70 HP. It also increases the range of the vehicle (assumably because you are burning 2 sources of fuel and measurimg MPGs off diesel fuel alone) Is this product for efficiency, lower EGTs or increased power? |

It's actually for all three. It's gets the average diesel 60-80 HP, increases MPG (if you drive like you want MPG anyway), and cools EGT's 100+ degrees on average. It's also the only system that allows the user to reprogram the propane curve based on what "other" mods they have or don't have etc. Quite a product overall. Mark @ DPPI |
Now I'll buy the power gains, it does add a good kick...
But as far as lower EGT's, the BS meter is creeping up here...my TorquePro most certainly does not lower the EGT's, and I have never seen nor heard of any propane system that actually does. Logically, it cannot. People seem to have this misconception that propane is a catalyst with diesel fuel- chemically, it is not. The faster burn rate does assist with burning off all of the diesel, but you are still adding fuel- more fuel = higher EGT. On a good note, of all the propane systems, this one does appear to be a very quality product. Vic, you got any input on this one? |
The propane could have a lower burn temperature/btu's and cool it down , I would think.

look at the notes under the picture of the system it states to install a pyro guage as exhaust temperatures increase.

If you do not use exorbitant amounts of propane to accomplish what a small amount will do, which is simply help burn the diesel that is present more completely...., then yes you can actually see lower EGT's. .
Now mind you, this is not a tremendous drop by any means, usually only about 50-100 degrees but it should not cause them to increase. And yes, you are correct, propane is not "technically" or by definition a "catalyst" in the true sense of the word, but for lack of a better way to describe it's effect on the diesel fuel, it is used to explain what happens. So while you are adding a fuel, the key is to not add a lot, (i.e. control the amount) so that you burn it (the propane) completely and more of the diesel along with it, such as with a system that is variable and controls and meters the flow of propane by a constant perimeter such as ...........boost pressure ;) ;) ;) Gauges are a good idea, regardless. |
