Melling RV cam

i just went to the machine shop to pick up my Melling RV camshaft for my 81' f-100 with a 302. I know it has good low end tourqe and towing...but how much of a difference would it make over the stock cam? eg: hp, mpg, tourque im not sure what the specs for the stock cam are, but here are the ones for my new one.
INTAKE/ EXHAUST

cam lift - .281 .296
valve lift - .450 .474
SAE duration - .280 289
.050 duration - 204 214
Lobe ctr - 108 116

Thanks I'll also be slapping on a set of headers soon as i get this motor rebuilt.

I used a cam similar in specs to yours, from a different manufacturer and in a non-Ford truck and got great results as compared to the stock cam. I could feel the gain in bottom end torque but about the same on highway passing power. This is just my experience. Good luck on yours.

Well,

I had a PAW cam that was about the same as that. It was a 204/214 .448/.472 grind with I believe a 110 or 120 center line. I've had great luck with it.

I can't comment on what it was like stock, because the owner of the motor before me bored the motor, installed chrome molly rings, and put on earlier year heads, as for the cam, I have no idea what was in it.

Let me tell you though, the re-rebuilt motor that I did using this cam rips. It's great for a daily driver and has plenty of bottom end for a 302 (Desktop Dyno 2000 estimated that it had around 290 ft/lbs at 2000rpms and nearly 260hp at 5000rpms with a stock set up [8:1 compression] and a four barrel carb with a dual plane manifold.)

I would suggest this cam for a daily driver. My truck is an '80 F150 shortbed regular cab C4 tranny and 3.50 gear. The 302 does the job and gets around 18-20 miles per gallon. Also, I pulled a 76 Mustang with it and the motor did fine (blew the trans cause the shiftdown was broken internally.)

I had an S10 before the truck that had a lot less motor and a lot less balls that got 15 miles to the gallon down hill with the engine off!!

This is a good cam... enjoy.

Erik
