'67 Door Hinges
Well, it looks like there wasn't a big market for my truck, so I am back to working on it for now.
I got ambitious and tried to pull the driver door so I could replace four bushings that would fix the sagging problem, when I noticed I couldn't get the upper hinge out of the body. I looked closely, and noticed that the pin that the bushings fit around had ridden up too high to clear the jam. Now, I can't get anything under there to push the pin back down. I am about ready to take a hacksaw to the pin to get the hinge out, and just replace it, but that is a drastic step. Does anyone have any ideas before I start cutting? Also, I tried to replace the flex coupler on the steering column, but the bolt tightening the bottom of the coupler to the shaft coming out of the steering box appears to be something like a torx bit but reversed like a torx socket. Is there a special Ford tool I have to have, or can I find something like that at a tool store? Thanks in advance. |
cfisher, I wouldn't fight the door hinges. They are easy to replace, just ditch the old ones. In fact, I have 2 67-72 sets laying around here.
If the door is sagging just re adjust it. It'll pick up the slack. Lemme know if you need set. I live in the springs as well. |
The steering column bolt you are talking about can be removed with a 12-point socket or 12-point boxed end wrench. I belive mine was a 9/16. Those are usually rusted on preety good so you may have to un-bolt the whole column and pull on the steering wheel in order to get it off the splines. I found that to be the easiest way for me. Good luck!

Chris how'd those hinges I gave ya work out? Or have you not had time to work on it during the work week, I hear ya! :)

Actually I haven't had a chance to work on the door hingest till today. I looked at that set you gave me, and it looks like I'll have to replace the bushings in those as well. I pulled the pin in one, and while there isn't a lot of play the bushings are showing their age. I just have to figure out how to get them out now.

huh, yeah sounds like getting your old ones off is the hardest thing besides adjusting the door.
I think I might go to the Grocery Warehouse car show this afternoon. |
I meant to go with the Z, but unfortunately I got tied up with a honey-do list and didn't get away in time. I will probably run down there next Sat though.

awesome. Yeah this one was packed out, probably the biggest so far this year. I parked my truck, popped the hood, and got many good looks. My first time down there. I'm going to go there more often.
There was some old timers there who had a cherry, baby-blue '65 shortbox who were smoking mine over. They had an early 427 (they said) in their '65. It wasn't nearly as clean as mine but the truck was still nice. |
