'48-'50 F1 and F2 questions
Hi, couple of quickies...
Are wheel base's the same for the F-1 and F2? If not, can someone point to the specs/numbers? Next, do the F2's have 5-lug wheels or 8-lug/floating rear axles? The reason I'm asking is I spoke with a guy who said he had "either a '48.'49,or 50 F2...but it's a short wheelbase one, just like an F1" I thought F2's were like a 3/4ton pickup? Thanks |
F-2 is a 3/4 ton truck. It has a wheel base of 122 inches and uses 8 lug rims similar to what you see today. The bed on a F-1 is 6.5 feet and a F-2 bed is 8 feet long. Many parts interchange, but alot, such as bed, fenders, running boards, tailgate, wheels do not swap. There's more that is different, but what I listed are the major ones. Look for the "F-2" emblem on the side and look at the serial number. F-2 has a number starting with something like 98RDxxxxx, with the "D" denoting F-2.

Mike,
The F-2's wheelbase could have been modified, but as Barry said the F-2 and F-3's were all 122 inch and 3/4 ton. I am shortening the frame on my F-3 to 114 inches to make an F-1 out of it. It requires two cuts....one of 8 inches just behind the cab and another of about 12 inches at the back end to make an F-1 bed and running boards fit. :) Vern |
Thanks,
I'll take a look at it when he brings it over, we'll see if he has what he says he has...or just what he thinks he has :-X20 Did I just say that? |
