2.3L swaping.....

Hey fellas, I have a little bit of a problem, I have my brothers 92 ranger with 2.3L and 5spd. mazda.
It has a 93 engine in it from the factory, and the motor is shot, but we just went thru the tranny and the rest of the truck is clean as a whistle.
We have decided if I can locate a good used engine from either wrecking yard or buddies of a friend, then we would like too just replace the motor and drive or sell the truck.
What years of 2.3L will bolt right up with minimal problems?

Thanks,
Clint

I have been known to be wrong once & a while, but I think 89-94 would work.

What about sensors and crap do they not have a knock sensor?
If I buy one out of a mustang could I just swap over the pan and accesory parts from the ranger?

Stick with the later model motors that have the dual plug heads. Although earlier engines will work, there is an extra boss in the dual plug trucks for the crank pickup. You could use an older EFI engine, but you'd have to convert the ignition back to one that uses a distributor.

Only the turbo motors used knock sensors I beleive, you won't use it on a natrually aspirated truck.

89-94 is what oyu have to stick to, i would try to find the exact year, the wiring may have changed ever so slightly as time went on

the 93 motor is a small journal... this and the fuel pump hole is the only diffence on these 2.3 (beside the dual spark heads)
the 93 will have injectors in it... a 89 up mustang has the same motor...
