4.6 Vs. 4.9 ......The pull off!
 

Well heres alittle background for ya'll. The truck I had previous to my 4.6 stx with 4.10 LS was a 1995 XL 4.9 with 4.10. I bought it along with a buddy of mine who bought the same thing (they were identicle b/c we got them from a construction company in 99' with 60k each on them). So tonight we are going to go out and hook um up one pavement (his 95 4.9 and my 04 4.6) and See who can pull who 100ft first. Any guesses?

1995 Xl 300 inline 6 with (chip, K&N, pipes and 4.10's)
2004 Stx 4.6 with (tuner 87 octane,pipes and 4.10's)

What transmission?

There's more to this then just the engine and mods to it. Transmission, tire sizes, etc.

I'll vote '95.

Ill get some pics but I dont have a video cam. I used to have the same truck and i have to say its got some power. But I think Ive got a chance. We shall soon see. We are going to do one run with no weight and then one run with 300 lbs in the bed. Hope no cops come...... I can say though that it most likely wont be done in tuttle creek recreation area around 7:30ish (wink).

Did you change the gears? The only 04 F150s available with 4.10s are the XLs and XLTs and they have 5.4L engines.

yes, 3.55 stock ford racing 4.10's.

Hey Dubin, before you snap a chain or a cable and kill yourself...
Did you put the 4.10 gears in yourself? or have it done? Any insite would be good as I am thinking of doing that mod to mine.

Whichever truck has more weight and lower profile tires will win regardless of the HP. If tires are similar, the 04 will win.

Well I just got back from doing it and have some pictures i will throw up once i scan them. It wasnt even close. We spun for awhile but once we hooked up I dragged him with ease the 100 feet. We havent done it with the weights in the beds yet, well do that tommarow. (Got my gears put in for me. If you change don't get the 4.10's get the 4.56's I assume you would be happier.)

It has nothing to do with power. The one with the most traction will win PERIOD. I don't care if you hook a 477ci big block, if the '95 gets more traction then he's gonna pull the other one all over the place.

WRONG. we both had traction. It is pavement. My truck is just heavier and more powerful. BTW 477CI big block in that 95 would have pulled me in a second. Anyway the test was to determine which pulls better on pavement. It is my truck any way you look at it.

So my question is... WHAT did this "scientific test" actually proove? Other than you can quickly take a good 10,000 (just guessing) miles off the lives of various components on your trucks???

Maybe next time you can rig some kind of 3 way pull off and see who wins.....maybe even 6 or 7 guys all pulling a center point and see which way it shifts. you could start a TV show on the Men's Channel. This has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard......are you trying to win the Darwin award or something.

Your pulloff has nothing to do with power, it has to do with traction....whoever overcomes the traction of the other guys tires wins.....think of 2 guys, same size, doing tug-of-war....one guy in dress shoes, one guy in cleats...who wins? No lets assume you have a summo wrestler on a sheet of Ice and a half-back in cleats on turf...who would win. Engine power means nothing if you can't keep the thing stuck to the ground. Your buddy might have won if he had new tires on his truck or let a few pounds of air out to increase surface area.

Not defending anything this reckless, but most people seem to assume the tires were hitting 'break point'. He said they were limited slip, so after a short spin they should have dug in. Now that's on pavement. We assume for the sake of the argument that the pavement was coarse. The flashpoint on the torque converter is low enough that you could 'lock up' without spinning. Now when one started to be pulled backwards, traction would break and it could get harry.

Of course, I wouldn't be within a thousand feet of this little exercise. And if you did it with my truck, you better be running faster a speeding bullet.
